they want the PICC out

They are going to try and get a new IV in Riley, pretty much like right now. If they are unable to get an IV in a good, somewhat stable location, they are going to try for a new PICC. The hope is to get an IV in somewhere that it may last a couple days. Then they can pull the PICC out, treat with antibiotics for a bit with the old infected PICC out, and then try and put a new PICC in or do broviac if new PICC attempt fails. If they can't get either in, the will continue treating through the current PICC, eventhough it's infected. Fingers crossed.

Praying they will be able to get a clean line in for Riley, so they can pull the infected one. Keeping fingers crossed, and hoping for the best solution possible.
Congratulations to Travis for receiving his first badge. That's SUPER!!! Hope you got some pictures. You have every right to be proud.
Love, Hugs, and God's Blessings,
Dale

Lindsey, I'm so sorry that Riley is going through so much. Have you considered trying to have him transferred to UNC or even Rex. They both have level 3 NICUs? I hear so much frustration and anger towards the team at Duke. I can't blame you, but it must be increasing your stress level. Maybe if he was at another hospital with a team you felt you could trust you would feel better.

I just feel so bad for you - to feel like you can't/don't trust the doctors must be an awful, awful feeling.

I hope things improve quickly.
