While he was sleeping

I was busy crafting! Specifically, sewing in this case.

Here are a few of my recent projects:
A strap cover for my camera

It's padded on the inside, and I love it. The colors are a little off in these pictures.

Some of these

And I made this little gadget case a couple weeks ago, for it to hold something. But then, I got a DS for my birthday, so it now holds it!

I also made some hooded towels for the boys, but they aren't quite finished. I'm sure you will see them modeling those soon. :o)

And since my camera was in these pictures, I had to use Travis' camera to take the pictures and I found these 2 shots on the card when I downloaded. I laughed so hard, so thought I would share.

a mega post!

Yes. I know. It's been a while. I have been busy! So here is a quick catchup of the past week or so....

Travis had a stomach bug last week. Woke up throwing up and thew up majority of the next day so had his first day absent from school. Pizza was dinner the night before. You do the math on what his bed looked like. he then graciously shared his bug with his mom and dad...although we didn't have vomiting. Luckily no bed sheets were harmed in OUR being a little under the weather. :-)

For those of you up north, I don't know what your weather is like right now but ours has been GORGEOUS! Seriously. Windows open, cool breeze blowing, this is the life right here. And why am i sitting around blogging right now? Well, Jay and Travis took off for a little while and took my van keys with them. So no grocery store for me! Instead, lots of laundry. yuck.

But I did create this:

Travis has been very into his art class in school. One day they had to draw stingrays (their school mascot), here is his stingrays (also a shark on the side):
and some self portraits:

and our favorite so far...this was done friday, his art teacher told them to draw a picture of the people they love, doing something or going somewhere that they love...this is his picture:

It is a picture of our Parker boat (notice the 2 motors on the back...err bottom of the page) and his daddy is driving it, I am sitting on the cooler and Travis is throwing the anchor. Favorite picture hands down so far!!!

Hmmm what else....Oh, he started karate. He SAYS he hates it! But he comes home enthusiastic about it and has been practicing his punches. We are going to give it another couple weeks then sneak in to watch one day.
And in honor of October coming...a little picture. They say money can't buy happiness but this little 50 cent pumpkin sure will make a little man's day when he see's it shortly (a present from mema)

Kindergarten project poster and turtle photography

Tomorrow, we have to turn in a poster that answers some questions we were given about Travis and includes some pictures of him. Well, you can see below what happens when you give Travis and I a computer full of pictures and a poster board to fill up! I busted out some old die-cuts to put on there and die cut some letters for his name and Voila!!! a poster about him. During the year, a child will be the Kindergartener of the week and their poster will hang in the hall and they will be featured in class. I am betting he is going to hate that when his turn comes but he's darn proud of his poster at least!

Now...did you notice the picture of his turtle on that poster? Well...the photographer of the family would be yours truly. And so the task of photographing 3 little turtles all together for this poster became mine at ooooh about 3pm today. So I round them up out of their tank and plop them in a bowl. Outside we go into the yard after putting the dogs in the house (licking turtles is GREAT fun....who knew). Well...these are little guys. The biggest one is only about the size of the palm of my hand and the smallest is about the size of a 50 cent piece. So....there I am....on my belly....in the yard....getting eye to eye with these little turtles. All for the love of a boy. :o) I KNOW i looked hilarious cause the little one (yes..that seems to be it's name) and Aleena (the biggest one) kept coming to me and getting out of my frame. Jack wouldn't peek his head out of his shell so I'm laying in the grass on my stomach (getting bit my fireants too I found out a few moments later), yelling at 3 little turtles. But they are cute. And Travis loved the picture. So i guess it was all worthwhile....
where you going little one???

Now Aleena get's in on the escape action (jack hiding in his shell....)
OOOh so close, almost (oh and I tried stacking them largest to smallest...that didn't work)Finally! Success.

Just because it's cute....

Travis needed a nap mat....

His teachers asked for a towel for their 30 minute rest time at school. Well all you that know me well will know that a towel was never gonna do. :o) That just doesn't sound cozy to me...to lie on a towel on a hard floor for a half hour. Nope...Travis needs a custom nap mat to lay on. Well...to begin with, it wasn't oging to be custom. It was going to be store bought from JCPenney but they didn't have any. So off to the fabric store we went. he picked out some really cool solar system fabric and I picked some red fabric to do the handle and ties with.

So I get home and I cut out all the pieces right away. I sew the handle. I iron the ties. The ties require top-stitching....hmmm that makes me nervous so I procrastinate it. Fast forward to Wednesday night about 8:30....Travis goes to school for a full day the next day and so would need his rest mat. Must get to sewing. Quickly sew up the ties....yep....I do my best work under pressure. Now just need to sew the ties and handle on to the mat and sew it closed. Done. I work on it during commercial breaks of Last Comic Standing. Now I just need to sew the quilting and I'm done...woohoo. Take a few minute break after Last Comic Standing. When I return to the mat, i'm much more scattered brain than before cause I'm not as focused.

Sewing along when OOOOPS!!!! I sewed my FINGER to the mat. And umm a piece of advice...I don't recommend doing that. One...you have to remove said finger some how from the mat. Then rush to the sink without bleeding on mat, clothes, carpet, etc. Then, stupid finger won't stop bleeding! finally, with two bandaids on it, I return to mat. Shortly later, it's done. It's SOOOO him. And he was SOOOOO excited when he saw it this morning. He told me I was the BEST mommy EVER and he LOOOOOVED me SOOOO much (with a big hug). So I guess it was worth sewing my finger afterall.

his teachers oooohed and ahhhhed over it when we got to school this morning (while I hid my triple band-aided finger). Speaking of which, he did great going in. All business. put his backpack and lunchbox in cubby, folder in folder basket and off to his desk.
PS: if you ever want to torture someone, sew their finger with a sewing machine.
PPS: typing with a triple band-aided, hurts like the dickens finger that has been sewed to a nap mat then removed....HURTS! lol
My mom is gonna be so proud of my sewing abilities :o)
