info so far today

The surgeon came by and said that putting a broviac in Riley will be "no problem", as long as the infection is clear. This would be a few more days at the earliest I guess. he will NOT combine the surgeries though. Said Rileys next surgery will be a big one. It will be several hours long. He also is stickign with doing the surgery the first week of december. Next week is apparently not good for his schedule. So two whole weeks of being away before they even do the surgery.

His white blood cells had gone up some today and his platelets came back down to 86. But they are telling Jay he's clear of the infection because of negative blood cultures so far, and this is just body still dealing with it. I have about 200 questions on this whole situation and am NOT happy to be relaying them and getting the answers to them relayed to me. Another blood work this afternoon. AT this rate, I fully expect him to need a blood transfusion by the weekend, just because they are taking so much from him. They are giving him an antifungal medicine in addition to his antibiotics just in case. Those cultures take 5 days so they started them as a precaution until they know for sure.

he's still very congested, but it's all nasal, nothing wrong with lungs. It is because of this that they have been holding his feeds, in fear of him aspirating milk into his lungs. Jay says he is VERY hungry acting though and has convinced them to try it, after suctioning him out good.

They added a chemical to his TPN mixture to help combat the ill effects of being on long term TPN on his liver. HOpefully that will improve his jaundice or at the very least help keep from worsening.

The ostomy nurse came by to evaluate him this morning and she told Jay that I did excellent in caring for his ostomy while he was gone from there. Big sigh of relief over hearing that. She did set him up with a different type of paste so interested to hear how that works out.

Good job Lindsey on caring for baby Riley and his needs, ostomy being one. In God, there is healing and peace. God is Great, and God is Good. Lots of Love, Pauline

All in all it sounds like you got really positive news about Riley's condition. What a nice compliment to you from the ostomy nurse. Of course, I never had any doubt that you weren't doing a great job. You're the Mommy, that's why! I do feel for you being away from "sweet cheeks" like this, but it sounds like Jay has a good hold on things at Duke for now. Again, Lindsey, stay strong and positive, and give your worries to God. He will take care of Baby Riley and all of you!
Love and Hugs, Dale
