a good Sunday

Today was a good day. Riley did well, got to see Travis, and he was happy and in a good mood, picked up some pictures I had printed from Costco, saw some friends....I think when it's time to return to Duke, staying there will be much more difficult! I didn't realize just how lonely I was up there.

It's funny...I always thought that if Riley could be sent back to NHRMC, that one of us would spend the night there every night, since we have that option here. But we're so much more relaxed with him there. Plus he isn't "sick", so he pretty much just snoozes the night away. His nurse tonight, who also was his nurse last night, said he woke up only a few times last night, and she gave him his paci and turned on his monkey music box and he went right back to sleep. His heart rate and breathing rate (which was still running on the high side up at Duke) has been SO much better since he's been home. His heart rate was never an issue, but was just faster up there. And his breathing rate was MUCH faster. But are some indicators of stress. But here, in the quiet quiet nicu we have at our hospital, he rests peacefully. Good stuff. But Brigit, Jamie or Heather...if your reading this...YOUR MISSED!! But the place you work at is not :o)

I got lots more practice changing that ostomy bag today too. Had to do it twice. Once, because it was leaking big time. Twice because the first one I put on today came unstuck on one side and was beginning to leak a little. Practice makes perfect though. He got another sponge bath tonight and smelled all fresh and clean. Nurse said we could bring in baby tub if have one so can really bathe him, as long as we keep his PICC line out of the water. That will be sooo much better, so bathtub will be going in with me in the morning.

Oh. Travis said today after a big sigh..."I sure hope Riley is home for Christmas". :o( Me too buddy, me too.

Hi Lindsey,
Glad you two are home; at least for awhile anyway. today's prayer:Heavenly Father, giver of life and health, comfort and relieve Riley and give your power of healing to those who minister to his needs, that he may be strengthened in his weakness and we have confidence in your loving care; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lindsey, I am so glad Riley is at home now close to all of you, your family and friends. He seems to be content here. That's wonderful. Can't wait to see him again. Love, Debbie and Gary
