I am so angry with his nurse today I can hardly see straight. She just got an earful about it also. It WILL be requested that neither of the nurses that are in here today are in a room with him again.
Him wanting to be held and my having to lay him down so I can go get things together for Jay and Travis to leave does NOT equal a morphine need. He was inconsolable? Did you hold him? No? Then yes, I bet he DID keep crying. Does that mean he needs drugs that sets back his progress as far as the docs are concerned? Nope. Do I think you did it for the quiet? Yep. Did I say that outloud? Yep.

Hey you are the mom and you know what he needs! I hear you about fuming with the nurses, we had our share..you can only take so much. Hope he's homebound sooner then later! Take a breathe...breathe...
First - let me say I LOVE the b&w of Jay, Travis and Riley. It is outstanding and should be published somewhere.
Second - hold your ground on the nurses and don't back down. Sometimes you have to fight for what is best.
I completely agree with the morphine thing too. If there is another way - they should try that first. You absolutely should make a sign and make sure a note is put in his file.
You seem to be having a lot of problems with nurses. There are several people you can speak to: the nurse supervisor (assuming she's not one of the ones you dislike), the NP in charge of Riley, or a nurse you do like. Honestly, I would start with the nurse I like and feel her out.
You can request to not have certain nurses. You can also request to have certain certain you do like. It's a little trickier since the nurses sign up for their own "primaries" so it could be a matching act, but you should try. You may be there a while and you should be as happy as possible.
It is great you are able to hold Riley so much. It is so important. Don't ever let a nurse tell you that you are doing more harm than good. It's probably better for him to be held and get a little extra morphine than not be held and have less. Are you trying kangaroo care - skin to skin? It's so good for them.
I'm so glad Riley is doing better. It does sound like he is on the way up:-) Yea!!

Hi Lindsey, Hoping you and baby Riley have a good day today. So glad to hear that Riley is improving with each day. Love to you both, Pauline
Hi Lindsey
Hope today and forward are better days. My prayer today: Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd of the sheep, you gather the lambs in your arms; we commend to your loving care this child Riley. Relieve his pain, guard him from all danger, and restore to him your gifts of gladness and strength. Hear us, we pray,Amen.
Two things Lindsay - first in the close up photo of Riley's face he looks just like you!!!
Second, Riley is depending on you to stick up for him and watch out for him so don't hesitate to speak your mind with the nursing staff. You will never be sorry for standing guard over him.
