another small miracle

at the time of last nights (or early this morning, whichever way you want to look at it) posting, I was here in the hotel alone, and had just gotten here from being over at the hospital (about 2 blocks away). Jay walked me over and then went back as that is our normal schedule of doing things. He didn't come back till after 2 am.

While over there, he got to change Riley's diaper and in the process, got pee'd on.....TWICE!

He got to lift and hold Riley up out of the bed while the nurse changed his bedding (due to having pee all over it now).

He was there to find out that when the nurse did her mid-shift exam, she HEARD BOWEL SOUNDS!!!!!!!!!! What a relief. That means his bowels are beginning to improve a little and at least we know there is some life in them.  this change doesn't make a big difference as far as any of his treatment goes or anything like that, but what a relief to us. And it is another small sign of improvement.  Now we wait for signs of POOP! Which I imagine will still not really happen until he began receiving food, and gets rid of the stomach suction thing, but either way, I have never been so happy to hear about a stomach gurgling with gas in my life :o)

You don't know me, but I'm friends with your friend Michelle. Michelle mentioned your blog to me and that you are at Duke.

My son spent his first 17 days in the Duke PICU and had open-heart surgery at 6 days old to correct a heart defect. He's doing great now.

I just want to offer my prayers and support to your family. I'm not sure if the Ronald McDonald house has been mentioned to you, but we didn't qualify for it. We did end up getting a condo at Duke Tower - http://www.duketower.com/ which is not too far away and is a lot more comfortable than a hotel room!

Praise God for little miracles! We have been following your blog since Michelle emailed us about what was going on, on Saturday. I am so relieved to read that Riley is improving bit by bit. He's definitely a little fighter! Keep on fighting Riley!
Please know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers!

Lindsay,
You don't know us either, but your friends Christie and Jay go to church with us and asked that our Sunday School class lift you up in prayer. Your family has been constantly on my heart since the weekend, and I am praying for improvements hourly. I'm praying for your strength and recovery too (though I know it's the least of your concerns at this point).
Can't wait to hear about that first "dirty" diaper!
Susan
